While we are on the topic of insurance, I would like to discuss another type of insurance that I believe is necessary. Life insurance is there just in case you need it. Of course no one wants to think the unthinkable, but if you or your spouse dies or becomes permanently handicapped it will drastically change the lives of your family.

Children's health insurance

One of the major expenses for the self-employed is health insurance. There are many major insurance companies that offer group plans for self-employed customers. Before purchasing child insurance, I suggest looking into state sponsored health plans. The state we live in offers health care for any child living in your household under the age of 19 for no charge. There are no premiums, no deductibles, and no co-pay. As predicted, when I took my son to the doctor this morning for his yearly exam, they still have the wrong insurance listed in their system. A few weeks back, I went through the same thing with my daughter, and this all should have been straightened out back in March when we switched the children's insurance. I have faxed the necessary information to two different offices twice now, and all the lady on the phone could tell me was that there may be a delay of up to six months before it is off the system. Why??? Everything is computerized. Just go to my kid's account number and take off the old insurance and replace it with the new one. Is that so hard?? Apparently so.
