I think the way the American corporate system is set up is fundamentally wrong. We spend the most productive and healthy years of our lives slaving away at jobs we don't enjoy, in the hopes of retiring one day. When we reach retirement age, many people are having health problems or just don't feel up to doing all the things they planned on doing when they retired.
Our goal, of building a home mortgage free and hopefully lowering utility and grocery bills drastically, will enable us to "retire" in a sense, at half the age of most Americans. We will still have to make some money to pay bills each month, but we will be more in control and can do just what makes us happy and what we feel makes an important contribution to society. Never again will we have to worry about cpm or corporate politics.
People who call us lazy are simply either ignorant to the hard work it takes to run a household this way, or they are just jealous and think they can't do it themselves. We plan to fully document our experience to show others that it can be done, and hopefully others will join the ranks of voluntary simplicity and minimalism.
