Drive it 'til it dies

christina's picture

I think it is sad when my car is the oldest in a parking lot, especially since it is only 11 years old. My husband and I have never owned a new car, nor would we desire to. There is enough stress in my life without worrying about every little nick and ding on a car. Plus, we have young children, so you know the interior can't stay perfect.

You'll have to excuse me for being a bit off-topic with this post, but I have to share the experience of my first week with both of my children in school. My son just started full day preschool, so now my husband and I have plenty of time alone together during the day to work on our self-employment endeavors and keep tweaking the house plans for our future building project.

Can't get enough

There are a few things that people seem to be unable to resist. If a company has a snazzy logo and catchy name or slogan, people will eat up products advertising the company, such as promotional pens, stress relief balls, bags, t-shirts, coffee cups, or stickers.

Save for the future

christina's picture

I was informed of the benefits of stem cell research back when I was pregnant and they asked if we wanted to bank the cord blood. The idea of being able to tap those cells in the future to possibly cure my child or myself of diseases sounded intriguing, but the cost of banking the blood at that time was just not something we could afford. » continue reading

The new school year is fast approaching, and I am always reminded at this time just how fast my children are growing up. One of the things I learned from reading the works of Eckhart Tolle is that we must live in the present, because that is all we ever have. The past lives in our minds in the form of memories, and the future is also in our minds as we picture what will happen.

Deeper downsizing

christina's picture

We are sort of in limbo for the time being, until we sell our house. Aside from all the plans for the new land and building our house, we have many other things we want to sell before we move. Our new house will have many built-ins, so the need for much of our furniture will be eliminated. But we feel that our house won't "show" as well if all that furniture was missing, so we are waiting.

The downsizing has begun

christina's picture

We had our yard sale last weekend, and it was very successful. All the big stuff (furniture, electronics, and appliances) sold, except for the Home Theater system, which we can probably sell online. We even sold our weight bench, which was only a year old, but we figure we won't have the space for it after we move, and we should be able to lose weight while building and working on the land!

Today's teen advantage

christina's picture

One of the more embarrassing memories of my teenage years is buying skin creams and acne treatments at the local store. Of course, now that I am "all grown up" I realize that almost every teenager has to battle less-than-perfect skin at some point and it's just something you have to outgrow.

Today's kids don't have to worry about a thing, though, since they have the luxury of shopping online. Simply plugging in keywords like best acne website will bring about plenty of great deals on skin treatments without even setting foot in a store. You can also find ratings on the products, so you won't waste money on something that doesn't even work.
